This first line of sports shoes was named Nike after the Greek goddess of victory, and the subsequent success led to Blue Ribbon Sports to be renamed Nike in 1978. The brand Nike soon established themselves as one of the worlds leading sports brands with a 50% market share in the United States athletic shoe market.
